Abstract
Presently, the single most effective means to cure a woman of breast cancer is through the early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of the disease. Mammography has enabled physicians to diagnose many nonpalpable or occult carcinomas of the
breast
that
are often nodenegative and smaller than 1 cm., and allow for increased cure rate. The ultrasonography of the breast is difficult for the diagnosis of carcinoma fo the breast, but the most appropriate case is for differentiating cystic from solid
masses
found by palpation or on mamography. From january 1989 through July 1992, authors reviewed and analysed for the preoperative mammographic and sonographic findings taken simultaneously on 108 women, and report its result with a review of
literatures.
@ES The results were summerized as follows:
@EN 10 preopertively, total 108 cases performed both mammography and breast sonography. Of these cases, most commonly distributed age group was in the 6th decade(38.0%)
2) In preoperative mammography, mass lesions were revealed in 105 cases997.2%), and of these cases, 55 cases(51.0%) showed the spiculated or brush margin and ill-defined margin was showed in 43 cases938.0%).
3) In 105 cases with amass, the secondary signs were accompanied in 36 cases(34.3%).
4) On mammogram, 27 cases925.0%) showed the calcification within a mass, mass lession only in 78 cases(72.2%), and calcification only in 3 cases(2.8%).
5) On ultrasonogram of the breast, 102 cases(97.1%) showed the irregular shape, ill-defined border in 99 cases(94.3%), none or regular boundary echoes in 98 cases(93.3%), heterogenous internal echoes in 90 cases(85.7%), less bottom echoes in 90
cases(88.6%), less bilateral shadow in 90 cases985.7%)k and no mass in 3 cases9(.8%).
6) Sensitivity rate for the malignancy in the breast imaging used with mammography was 87.0 percent, and that of the sonography of the breast was 83.5 percent.
